BRIGHT FOOTBALL

TROTTING TEAM IN FORM Commencing with two men short, THE SUN football team yesterday at Carlaw Park suffered defeat at the hands of the Trotting combination to the tune of 32 to 15. Weight, pace and stamina was largely arrayed on the side of the victors, and the rearguard cohesion kept the lighter lads with their backs well against the wall for the major portion of the game. The absence of Bowen and Prebble was a severe handicap for the losers. Tho light harness thirteen, considerably strengthened by the inclusion of the Epsom trotting shoer, C. Godfrey, who staged a remarkable come-back after a lengthy period of retirement, set a solid pace from the start and in quick time had scored two spectacular tries. The Sun boys, not to be denied, rallied, and showing speed and combination, put on five points. The Epsomites increased their tally with two more tries while their opponents added a penalty goal, and tho half-time score was: Trotters 12, The Sun 7. LOSERS LACK FINISH During th© early stages of the final session, The Sun combined much better and set up some solid attacks, lack of finish keeping them from scoring. They crossed the line on two occasions only to lose the ball. When the “trotters” broke loose, they made good use of the opportunities and their tally steadily mounted to 23. Another penalty lifted the lighter team’s total to 9. Prentice then went over to the weaker side, and F. Herring coming into the “enclosure,” also joined forces with The Sun. The final stages of play were Interesting, with occasional brilliant flashes. The backs on each side* threw the leather about freely, while the forwards also played solidly. The "trotters” added three tries and The Sun two, the final score reading 32 —15 in favour of the undefeated Epsomites.
