MOUNTAIN GUIDE’S TRAINER LEAVES TONIGHT * So that he may supervise the final week’s training of Mountain Guide, the Ellerslie mentor, E. C. Rae, leaves for Christchurch by this evening’s express. A forerunner to Mountain Guide’s engagement in the Grand National Hurdles will be the Longbeach Hurdles at the Christchurch Hunt Club’s meeting on Saturday week. He has only 21b over the minimum and once round and a distance (about 12£ furlongs) will suit Mountain Guide nicely. On his form in this race one can assess his National prospects. Mountain Guide attempts to bridge the gap from hack to open class on this occasion. At Trentham recently he had a win, a fall and a third in as many starts. The effects of the fall were much against him on the last day and it would not surprise were trainer Rae to bring off the much-coveted prize.
