“SLEEPING PARTNERS” The brilliant British talkie “Sleeping Partners,” starring the famous London actor Seymour Hicks, continues to delight audiences at the National Theatre. The story tells of a well-to-do Parisian bachelor who falls in love with a beautiful young married woman, and persuades her to visit his flat while her husband is out ostensibly with ail Argentine banker. When he kisse her for the first time she swoons. He rushes for sal volatile, but gives her a powerful opiate by mistake, and she sleeps soundly until morning. When her husband arrives, the terrified woman hides. But the bachelor is greatly relieved to find that the husband, having stayed out all night, has merely come to him for advice. How the bachelor succeeds in completely turning the tables on the husband and establishing a satisfactory alibi for the wife, is shown in a series of piquant situations, with clever and amusing dialogue and an atmosphere of intimate wit. A second attraction is shown on the same programme in “Half Marriage,” a tale of thrills and heart throbs, love and laughter, youth and romance, with Olive Borden in the leading role.
