CAUGHT IN MINCER
BOY LOSES FINGERS IN MACHINE COMPENSATION AWARDED A boy, who lost the four fingers and thumb of his right hand through getting them caught iu a sausage mincing machine on the first day of his employment, was awarded a total of £612 compensation in the Arbitration Court today. The claim was brought by Alfred oeo. Mason, father of the injured boy, Maurice Austin Mason (Mr. Burt) against Henry T. Read (Mr. Sellar), butcher, of Mount Eden Road. According to the cla’im the accident “JjruiTed on Monday, February 3, IJ3O, when the boy was engaged in mincing meat for sausage making. He overbalanced and his right hand becam® entangled with the result that *ll the fingers and thumb of the hand ’! er ® amputated. It was claimed that i b °y had been disabled from earnn? wages up to the present and that e aad suffered partial permanent disablement. The injured boy gave evidence that <s employer had directed him in the 3® of the machine, warning him to se the plunger iu pushing meat own into the bowl of the mincer. ? agreed that Read had warned him in ij dan S® r of putting his hand ■aside the bowl.
