CIVIC
“THE ARIZONA KID”
Something new in Westerns—a talkie in which every inch of film was actually made “on location” at the exact scenes of the story along the Rio Virgin in south-western Utah, is now being shown at the Civic Theatre. “The Arizona Kid” is the picture in question and it is a signal triumph for everyone concerned, including the cast, the director and the author. Warner Baxter, who created history with his role of “The Cisco Kid” in “In Old Arizona,” again plays the dashing, debonair bandit, but in a story of wider sweep and against more spectacular backgrounds than the earlier film afforded and the captivating Mona Maris, the heroine of “Romance of Rio Grande” with this same leading man and director, has a role worthy of her unusual talents in the current production. Carol Lombard, Mrs. Jiminez, Theodor Von Eltz, Hank Mann, Arthur Stone, Walter P. Lewis, Sidney Bracy, Charles Stevens, Cora Walsh, De Sacia Moeers and other celebrities are in the cast of “The Arizona Kid,” and add immensely to its entertainment qualities. The remainder of the Civflc’s programme includes enjoyable slirert talkie featurettes and a fine mushanl programme. Ted Henkel’s Civic Concert Orchestra plays selections from “The Student Prince” as an overture, as well as incidental music from 7.30 p.m., and Fred Scholl plays “An Old Guitar and an Old Refrain” on the Civic grand organ.
