ROXY
“VENGEANCE” TOMORROW The current programme at the Roxy Theatre will have its final screening this evening. This includes "The Mounted Stranger,” a new type of Western talkie, starring Hoot Gibson, and "Salute,” a stirring tale of military and football life, starring George O’Brien. December in sunny California doesn’t in the least suggest the tropics. While it is true that the icy blast and snows that mark New York winters are absent, there is a decided chilliness in the air—particularly on the sound stages of the motion picture studios. These stages are barn-like structures and are full of draughts. To look hot in such an atmosphere is an art. This was demonstrated during the filming of "Vengeance,” Columbia’s all-talking drama of the Congo which comes to the Roxy Theatre tomorrow.
Despite these disadvantages, the actors kept up the illusion perfectly. Jack Holt, George Pearce and Hayden Stevenson gave the impression that every bit of their vitality had been sapped by several years’ exposure to the tropical sun. Exhaustive research work done on the production has resulted in an atmospheric background that is correct in every detail.
