FIRST MATCH PLAYED The Mangere Badminton Club defeated the Papatoetoe Club in the first inter-club match of the A group for the Dart Shield by nine matches to three, at Papatoetoe last evening. For first-year players, the Papatoetoe team put up a good performance, and with more inter-club play their standard will improve. The visiting men accounted for all of the home players, while the first women players for Papatoetoe won after a good contest. Details are, Mangere names first:—. Men's Doubles.—D. James and L. Collings and W. McFarland, 21-9. Women’s Doubles.—Misses 1. Pheasant and L. Pheasant lost to Misses G. Leonard and M. Hall, 13-21; Misses G. Clark and R. Reeves beat Misses K. Leonard and D. Grinter, 2-12; Misses I. Pheasant and L Pheasant beat Misses K. Leonard and D. Grinter. 21-13; Misses G. Clark and R. Reeves lost to Misses G. Leonaid and M. Hall. 9-21. Combined Doubles.—James and Miss L Pheasant lost to Collings and Miss G. Leonard, 17-21; Kay and Miss L. Pheasant beat W. McFarland and Miss M. Hall, 2-10; Pheasant and Miss G. Clark beat M. French and Miss K. Leonard. 21-8; Knight and Miss R. Reeves beat C. French and Miss D. Grinter, 21-13.
