Trainer Berry Off the Scene

CLAIMED BY ILLNESS BAD LUCK AT THIS PERIOD R. B. Berry, one of New Zealand's leading trainers and reinsmen, Has not been experiencing the best of health for some time past and is at present in hospital in the South. Earlier in the season the Templeton trainer was off the scene through illness, but after making a recovery met with a good measure of success. Although his team is not a large one. Berry occupied a prominent place in the trainers’ and drivers’ lists for the season. He has a useful team engaged for the Addington August carnival, being represented by the pacers Jean McElwyn and Sunshower and the trotters Koro Peter and White Satin.

Just as he was getting busy with the quartet sickness again claimed him and during the week-end he was operated on for appendicitis. Latest reports state he is making a good recovery, but it is hardly likely he will be sufficiently strong enough next month to drive his charges. Mr. G. McMillan, one of Berry’s patrons, will leave at the week-end for the South to make arrangements for a suitable substitute for the August function. Berry, who prior to entering the trotting arena, had a lot of success at the sister sport, has secured a licence ts train gallopers, and the Auek'andowned On Top is now under his care at Templeton.
