WAITEMATA BOARD SUPPORTS HOUR’S DAYLIGHT SAVING “ADVANTAGE TO COUNTRY” Opposition was raised this at the Waitemata Board to a motion for adopting ivi recommendation bv the general poses committee in support of i nt rT ducing one hour’s daylight saving fnL August 1. On a division, the board adopted the principle of davlight saT ing. according to the outline made - the conference of the New z i Power Boards’ Association. In objecting to the motion, Mr H t ! Robertson said the introduction" of daylight saving would be a hardship ' on country residents and Mr. J. kie. who moved an amendment for deletion of the recommendation from the committee's report, thought the proposal was not justified. La«rt ye#r tiie board had been informed by it* engineer, Mr. F. J. H. Wilson, that daylight saving had only a effect on the consumption. The proposal was selfish and unjust. Mr. A. E. Greenslade attacked Mr Mackies contention that there wer* selfish motives in the proposal. The intention was to assist country residents. In agreeing with this view, Mr. W. R. T. Leighton remarked that, as the board had been requested to reduce consumption, a safe way was provided by daylight saving. The idea was to assist the Auckland Electric-Power Board in erring back power to the country. Mr. S. E. Kernings said. The chairman. Mr. G. Trevithick. also said the proposal had been put forward in the interests of the farming community. Mr. Mackie's amendment was losi and another by Mr. Robertson, supposing the principle of daylight saving being introduced at August 1. vra« rejected in favour of the recommendation, which expressly indicated th* provision of an hour’s daylight savinc
