ART IN NEW ZEALAND
LORD BLEDISLOE’S SCHEME FREE GALLERIES IN CITIES Press Association WELLINGTON, Today, Speaking at the Orphans’ Club on Saturday, the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, said he had been in communication with certain people in England with interests in New Zealand with the idea that they might contribute something toward remedying the deficiency in the arts in this country. The outcome might be the establishment of free art galleries in the working quarters of the four centres.
The appeal made was to establish some exhibition of reproductions of the old masters. The sum he had suggested was pretty large, and he. had received a cable from one of those approached conveying hearty agreement with the proposal and willingness to help, though not to the limit suggested.
