ONE PICTURE GOES FOR 16,000 GUINEAS WELL-KNOWN COLLECTIONS British Official Wireless Reed. 11.35 a.m. RUGBY, Friday. At a great art sale which realised nearly £IOO,OOO, at Christie’s auction room, London, some famous works, including several from the collections of the late Marquess of Curzon, Earl Balfour and the Ear! of Feversham, brought high prices. A superb Hobbema landscape, which was the property of the Earl of Feversham, brought 16,000gns. One of the most celebrated old masters among the 32 Curzon heirlooms, which in ail realised 40,000gns. was Rembrand’s portrait of an old man, which fetched 19,000gns. Other high prices were paid for portraits by Reynolds (4,400gn5), by Gainsborough (4,ooogns). and by Hoppner (2,200gn5). Of 12 pictures from the Balfour estate, the highest price paid was 2,600gns for Jan Van Coyen's view of the Dordrecht River.
