FARMER DROWNED
SUICIDE WHILE DEPRESSED EVIDENCE AT INQUEST From Our Own Correspondent PUKEKOHE, Today. A verdict of suicide while in a state of severe mental depression *was returned by the coroner, Mr. C. KL. Lawrie, J.P., at the inquest concerning the death of James Hood. Deceased, a well-known farmer of Paparata, aged 45 years, married with 13 children, was found in a waterliole, his feet being bound together with a handkerchief and his pockets filled with stones Evidence was given to the effect that Mr. Hood left his home about 2 p.m. on Wednesday saying he was going to visit a neighbouring farmer. As he failed to return a search was conducted, his hat, scarf and a tobacco tin being found above a waterfall. The body was found in a pool below. He had suffered from a nervous breakdown six months ago and was in a poor state of health.
