BUT ONLY BY SECONDS Five Kentucky convicts, four of whom were negroes, were in the death cell expecting electrocution. Two were expeditiously put to death, when the warden paused to read instructions he had just received from the Governor of the State. These indefininitely postponed the execution of the remaining three, who had been so close that they could hear the whirr of the fatal electric motors. The trio indulged in joyful demonstrations.
