PETER BINGEN
Owner Did Not Enter Him For Addington LISTED IN MAIN EVENTS Although Peter Bingen’s name appears in the list of entries for the- three chief events at the Addington August fixture “Abaydos ’ learns that the crack pacer was not nominated for the meeting at all. Peter Bingen’s owner, Mr. Wilfred Johnstone, made this plain when conversing with the writer. He said on seeing his horse’s name among the list of entrants published in an Auckland paper yesterday he was astounded. He had no intention of either entering or racing the pacer at the August meeting of the New Zealand Metropolitan Club and gave no authority to any person to nominate Peter Bingen. “The horse,” said Mr. Johnstone, “is not even in work and I am undecided whether he will raco this season. No Consistency The owner stated he had intended running Peter Bingen at the Auckland winter carnival, but on the appearance of the handicaps dismissed the idea. “My horse,” he stated, “was handicapped right on his mark, while a number of others were let up 12 yards. As Mr. Paul is also adjuster for Addington, I decided it was useless to enter under such treatment. Mr. Johiistone made it plain he was not looking for favours, all he required was a fair deal. He did not object to his horse being penalised 24 yards for a win if other winners of big events were similarly treated. “It is not doing the sport any good,” he concluded, “by making fish of one and flesh of another.”
