THEATRICAL SOCCER

DAWE’S SIDE BEATS CIVIC A friendly Soccer match between the Clem Dawe Company “Love Lies” team, from His Majesty’s Theatre, and an eleven from the Civic Theatre staff, drew a large attendance of enthusiasts to Victoria Park yesterday afternoon, when the musical comedians defeated the talkies’ team by four goals to one after a strenuous and lively bout. Goals for the J. C. Williamson Company were scored by Robertson (2), M. Cole and W. A. (“Paddy”) Malone, the latter being an erstwhile favourite with the Shore and Ponsonby senior Soccer teams. Prominent members in the caste of theatrical company were led in great style by the übiquitous Clem Dawe. who was seldom left on the left wing, and showed a turn of spee'" and cleverness with the round ball which was loudly applauded by admirers on the line.
