ST. JAMES

“ROOKERY NOOK’’ Ben Travers, prince of English humorists, has written a number of highly successful books and plays, chief among these being “Rookery Nook,” the talking screen version of which will he presented this evening at the St. James, with the original English cast from Aldwych Theatre, London. There is not a dull moment in the film, for Mr. Travers is a past master in the art of creating the most amazing situations, and his stories keep one in shrieks of laughter. “Rookery Nook” is no exception to the rule. Miss Mary Brough, Mr. Tom Walls and Mr. Ralph Lynn make tile very most of the principal parts, rolling off tho tip of their ' extremely facile tongues all that is brightest and most humorous in the playwright’s inimitable dialogue. Tho story, which concerns the adventures of two young men and a girl, who suddenly thrusts her company upon them, is made the most interesting by reason of the comical interference of a gossiping woman with a penchant for disposing of other people’s affairs, and a curious old “daily woman” (Miss Brough), whose temper is like her common sense, gather frayed and worn. These people move from one entanglement to another in astonishing style until it seems" impossible for them even to be extricated sufficiently to allow of the conventional felicitous ending, but Mr. Travers, with the hand of a master, guides them through all their difficulties to a fitting climax. The new programme at the StJames Theatre this evening, will also include several short talkie featurettea.
