TAKAPUNA GRAMMAR SCHOOL
Parents of pupils of the Takapuna Grammar Schol, at a largely attended meeting, discussed a proposal to erect an assembly hall and gymnasium at the school. The meeting was convened by Mr. C. M. Littlejohn, headmaster of the school, and Mr. J. E. Close presided.
The belief that before long there would be 600 pupils at the school was aovanced by Mr. Littlejohn, who said that plans for the assembly hall would accommodate that number. The Grammar School Board would contribute to the cost and the' Government would grant a subsidy oh the amount raised. It was difficult to estimate the cost of the building as inquiries showed that similar buildings had cost from £1.700 to £7.000.
The following executive was set up: —Dr. H. C. Bennett and Mr. RecsGeorge, Devonport; Messrs. Watkin and Brooke, Vauxhall; Messrs. Mail* and Turbott, Stanley Bay; Messrs. T. Arthur and J. Close, Belmont-Bays-water: Messrs. Wilkins and Matthews, Takapuna Central; Messrs. Chalmers and Goodwin. Milford. Mr. C. E. Archibald was elected secretary. At a later meeting of the executive, Mr. T. Arthur was appointed chairman, and sub-committees were set up to organise schemes for raising the required funds.
