ORGAN RECITALS
OBJECTIONS BY TEACHERS Holding that, with the common use of radio and gramophones, the need for continuing the organ recitals for school children does not exist, the Auckland Headmasters* Association asked the Auckland Education Board yesterday that these recitals be discontinued. It was also pointed out that many parents could not afford to pay fares from outer suburbs, and that tho responsibility of bringing children through the heavy traffic to tho Town Hall was too great. The I’rimary Schools’ Association is to be asked fur its views on the suggestion. The chairman. Mr. A. Burns, pointed out that there were only one or two recitals a year, but maintained that it was necessary to secure the masters’ co-operation if the recitals were to be a success. “I cannot see that the gramophone or the radio can take the place of these recitals,” declared Mr. H. S. W. King. The board had received a deputation from leading musical authorities of the city in connection with Music Week, and had agreed to support tho movement. Members could hardly go against the views advanced then. He moved that primary schools bo consulted before any action is taken.
