ELDERLY MAN’S DEATH

EVIDENCE AT INQUEST

A verdict of accidental death was returned by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., yesterday, at an inquest concerning the death of James Charles Murray, aged 78, an old-aged pensioner, who died at the Auckland Hospital on July 12, as the result of injuries received through being knocked down by a motor-car at Avondale on June 17. Alfred Johnson, of 1 Islington Street. Herne Bay, said be was the driver of the car. On Tuesday evening. Juno 17, at 9.5 o’clock, he was driving to Avondale with two passengers, and when opposite the intersection of Rosebank Road and Great North Road a man suddenly stepped off the footpath The mudguard of witness’s car struck the man, knocking him down. Witness applied the brakes immediately i\d pulled up within 15ft. He was on his correct side of the road and his headlights were in good order.
