STOWAWAY FINED

DISLIKED AUSTRALIA Disoatisfied with conditions in Australia, Thomas McMahon decided to return to New Zealand as a stowaway on the Maunganui. McMahon, a storeman, aged 26, appeared at the Police Court today and pleaded guilty to a charge of being a stowaway. “McMahon was formerly a dairy factory employee in New .Zealand,” said Sub-Inspector Shanahan. “He went to Australia for a while, but as lie found labour conditions bad he decided on a cheap passage back to New Zealand. He was found three days after the boat left Sydney and was arrested here yesterday. He says he lias relatives in the South." Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: Perhaps his relatives will pay his fare. He is fined £7 10s or 14 days in default. He will also pay £1 costs for witnesses.
