PLAZA AND TIVOLI

“HOT FOR PARIS” “Hot for Paris,” at the Plaza and ; Tivoli Theatres, is based on a story idea which Raoul Walsh conceived j directly after finishing “The Cock Eyed World.” Victor McLaglen, Fifi Dorsay and El Brendel are co-feat-ured, and the story revolves around an Australian sailor played by McLaglen. who wins the great Calcutta sweepstakes. Escorts to find and hand him the money cause hilarious fun because he believes that the emissaries sent to* find him are trying to arrest hir^. Excellent supporting programmes are being shown at both theatre. At the Plaza is the big comedy, “The Shannons of Broadway,” and at the Tivoli. Clara Bow's latest talkie, “The Saturday Night Kid.” Sue Carol, who has portrayed chorus girls and society girls through most of her screen career, gives a new characterisation in “The Big Party,” the Fox Movietone musical laugh-hit coming to the Plaza Theatre tomorrow. Miss Carol takes the part of a piano-player in a flve-and-ten store, and “jazzes” the newest melodies for the benefit of the customers. Dixie Lee and Walter Catlett are the other co-featured players in the production. VICTORIA, DEVONPORT “Sunny Side Up,” which will he shown at the Victoria Theatre tonight, is notable for the combination of an amusing story, a charming romance between the two screen favourites, Charles Farrell and Janet C.avnor, and the introduction of catchy songs. Miss Gaynor sings “I*m a Dreamer, Ain’t We All?" and Mr. Far-i-ell sings "If I Had a Talking Picture of You." both of which have become favourites. "Sunny Side Up" is a delightful production. MUNICIPAL CHOIR The Munciipal Choir will have the assistance of Madame Irene Ainsley, vocalist, and Miss Lalla Heraus, cellist, at its concert in the Town Hall on Saturday evening next. A fine programme of choral works, vocal and instrumental solos has been prepared. Mr. Maughan Barnett, city organist, will conduct, and Mr. Leo Whittaker will be the accompanist.
