i)ISCUSS!ON AT CONFERENCE NEW OFFICERS ELECTED Press Association WELLINGTON. Tuesday. The annual conference of the executive council of the Public Service Association opened today, Sir Aplrana Ngata mentioned tlie fear existing regarding possible salary reductions and said: “I think we are looking forward to trying to arrange that, more work should be done for the public expenditure, rather than to cuts.” Questions referred to by the chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, were the restoration of the maxima of the salary scales; superannuation, particularly the differentiation in the proportion paid in the different grades of the service; and contributions to the superannuation fund by temporary officers, some of whom were required to pay a higher rate than might he regarded as equitable in the circumstances The following officers were elected: President, Mr. A. Burgess (Wellington); vice-presidents, Messrs. R. Fullerton and P. S. Foley (Wellington), G. McKessar (South Canterbury) and J. Jackson (Gisborne); executive committee, North Auckland. Mr. W. S.
