All communications must be accompanied oy the inquirers name and address (not for publication), and sent to THB SUN “Service Station, Motordoin” THB SUN Auckland . Answers will appear weekly io this column, *

S.P. — I would like to fit another windscreen wiper to a light six Chrysler make. The wiper that is on now is a Trico suction type and I would like to know if there would be enough suction to work another one. If this is not possible could I get an extension arm for another wiper anywhere in Auckland ?

There would probably be enough suction to work another wiper all right, but you would find it too expensive to operate that way. I don’t know of any extension arm on the market, but you could easily get such an arm made. There is nothing in it, and it could be made quite cheaply.

“Ford.”—l beg space in your column of answers to motor questions for the following question: What is the advantage of the Ruxtell axel in the Model T Ford, which was fitted for an extra cost?

The Ruxtell gears provided the Ford model T with three forward gears instead of two. Further, these three gears were operated by a lever instead of by a pedal. The gear ratios are quite different from the original Ford gear ratios.

"Highcom.”—l would be obliged if you would advise me the correct valve

timing for a 1923 Rugby red seal continental engine. Also at what angle the king pin in steering knuckle should bo placed when 31 x 4.4 U tyres are used.

(a) Tho inlet valve opens at top dead centre, and the exhaust valve closes at practically the same time, (b) No information available, so I’m afraid you will have to take the car to the agents for examination.

J.B.H. —I see that one of your correspondents signing himself E.R. has had trouble with the clutch on his model A Ford. I also own one of these cars and have experienced the same trouble. At 3,000 miles the trouble started but at 5,000 miles approximately had disappeared. Now at 6,000 nothing can be heard. The clutch is a multiple disc. When it started there came to my mind memories of those mysterious noises that sometimes develop in a car and over which one might spend untold hours in trying to discover them or incur quite an expense in trying to have them located.

The car was running well so all I did was to attend to the greasing of the alemite bearing inside the inspection cover rather copiously. From my experience it appears that Mechanic No. 1 is right.
