GOLF SECESSION

PROPOSED DIVISION OF MAUNGAKIEKIE CLUB I ONE TREE HILL MOVEMENT A proposal affirming the desirability ! of the secession of those members of the Maungakiekie Golf Club who play at One Tree Hill and the formation by them of a separate club was carried at a meeting of One Tree Hill members of the club on Saturday. This proposal has been afoot for some time. At the meeting, Mr. S. Schnauer, who presided, said that the Titirangi members of the club would probably be quite willing for secession to take place. He also said that for years the insecurity of the tenure of the One Tree Hill links had been a great bugbear, but he believed the area would be secured for golf for many years to come. If the links were lost to the club it would be impossible for the Titirangi links to accommodate all the members. Mr. Schnauer referred to the financial aspect, mentioning that by far the greater portion of capital expenditure of the club had been made at Titirangi. No fault could be found with this, as it was a perfectly sound principle to make capital expenditure on freehold rather than on leasehold property. A motion, submitted by Mr. J. M Elliffe, affirmed the desirability of secession and proposed to set up a committee to meet a committee representing the- Titirangi section of the club with a view to hearing its views and, if possible, coming to an amicable arrangement. The motion was carried by a large majority. Before any definite steps can be taken the arrangement will have to be submitted to another meeting and subsequently to all the members of the club, probably by way of referendum.
