PAWNED PAINT BRUSHES
LABOURER WARNED BY S.M. “If you’re not cleaned up and working in a week, I'll finish you up fdr three months,” Mr. F. K. I-lunt, S.M., told John McCarthy, at the Police Court this morning. McCarthy, a labourer, aged 23, was charged with being idle and disorderly, inasmuch as he had insufficient means of support. “I plead guilty to being idle,” said McCarthy. “But I can’t get a job.” Chief-Detective Hammond said that McCarthy was in a dirty condition when arrested, and already had a long list for drunkenness. “He got a job painting the other day,” said Mr. Hammond. “However, he pawned the brushes that were given him.” Staff-Captain Holmes said McCarthy’s brother would give him a job next week. “Well, I’ll remand him for a week,” said Mr. Hunt. “If he’s not cleaned up and working by then I’ll finish him up for three months.”
