THEFT OF WHISKY

BILLIARD-MARKER FINED

Admitting the theft of a bottle of whisky at Wairoa on February 1, George Harvey Cornish was fined £l, in default three days’ imprisonment, at the Police Court this morning. Cornish, a billiard marker, aged 21. was charged with stealing a bottle of whisky valued at 14s 6d, the property ot William Hugh McCarthy. Chief-Detective Hammond said Cor nish was with a side-show at Wairoa when he and a youth had committed the theft. Cornish had ignored a summons to appear at Napier and had been arrested at Auckland.

“I received the summons at Rotorua and did not have the money to go to Napier.” said Cornish.

Mr. Hunt fined him £l, in default three days’ imprisonment.
