GIFT AFTERNOON
TENNIS CLUB MEMBERS ENTERTAIN BRIDE-TO-BE At the Pukeroa Tennis Club courts on Wednesday Miss Baster, who is shortly to be married, was entertained at a gift afternoon by the women members. During the afternoon a tennis tournament was played, the winner being Mrs. Mueller. Among those present were:—Mrs. Mueller, Mrs. Syrne, Mrs. Sayer, Mrs. Henry, Mrs. Hardy, Mrs. Eccles, Mrs. Annan, Mrs. Dear, Mrs. Newsham, Mrs. Tremball, Misses Baster (2), Miss Lamb, Miss Overton, Miss Hackett, Miss Kennedy, Miss Derliam, Miss Flavell. W.C.T.U. AUCKLAND BRANCH MEETS On Tuesday afternoon a meeting of the Auckland Women’s Temperance Union was held. Mrs. John Cook presiding. An appeal was made for articles for the jumble sale, the proceeds to go to the district funds, and several members offered to help at the temperance stall at the Winter Show. A letter was read from Mrs. Hutchinson. of Melbourne, a former member of the union, giving an account of the Federal W.C.T.U. convention, held in Brisbane, at which a welcome was accorded Miss Amy Johnson. An interesting outline of her Loyal Temperance Legion work among the school children in the Mount Albert district was given by Miss Fyfe. The classes had been well sustained and the work was most encouraging. She also expressed the hope of extending the work in other districts. Mrs. Riddle, a missionary from Kliarbai\ India, and also president of the W.C.T.U. in that district, gave a graphic account of temperance and social work in India.
