GRAFTON SCHOOL CHILDREN ENJOY GAY COSTUME PARTY
GAMES, DANCING AND SONGS { ' | An enjoyable afternoon and evening 1 was spent on Saturday in the Scots Hall, when the Grafton school children held their fifth annual fancy dress dance. The gay and fanciful costumes of the children presented a colourful picture as they formed the grand march. Gaines, songs and dancing were or- > ganised by the women teachers of the staff for the younger children of the. chool during the afternoon. Miss Irene Long and little Rhoda Mastem gave an exhibition of step dancing in the afternoon and evening. When the children had finished the grand march “The Denver Calder Scholarship Medal,” given annually by the Rev. Jasper Calder for the boys, for a hundred yards handicap, was presented by Mr. Denver Calder to Jack Dobson. Much of the success of the function was due to Air. G. Jones, headmaster, the teaching staff, members of the school committee and Mr. W. J. Edwards, chairman of the committee, and special thanks were given to the orchestra, which gave its services free. BRIDGE AFTERNOON AT EVELYN FIRTH HOME 4 VICTORIA LEAGUE GIRLS On Thursday afternoon the girls’ branch of the Victoria League held its monthly bridge party at the Evelyn Firth Home for Returned Soldiers. Prizes were won by Mr. Gordon and Mr. Chaney. Among the players were Mrs. Ewen, Miss W. Kent (convener), Miss Aitken, Miss Joan and Miss Dorrie Heather. Miss Linda Be Benzie, Miss Cox, Miss Tillie Rountree and I Miss Schischka.
