NAVAL CONFERENCE
ALLEGED NON-ACCEPTANCE OF N.Z.’S REP. EARL JELLICOE’S POSITION From Our Resident Reporter WELLINGTON, Today. The Prime Minister, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, is awaiting information from the British Government concerning the Home Government’s alleged refusal to accept Earl Jellieoe as the Dominion's representative at the Naval Conference. According to a cablegram published recently Earl Jellieoe revealed, in the course of a debate in the House of Lords, that the New Zealand Government had asked him to act as its representative at the Naval Conference. He is reported as having added that the Secretary of State for the Colonies, Lord Passfield, suggested it would be embarrassing if the Empire delegation had two sets of expert advisers, and that the New Zealand Government thereupon asked him to put his views in writing before the Admiralty, which he did. Mr. Forbes said he was unable to make a statement on the question until he received advice from the British Government concerning its action.
