“LOVE LIES” SEASON

NEW COMEDY PERFORMANCE The J. C. Williamson, Limited, English musical comedy company will give the two remaining performances in Auckland of the delightful London Gaiety Theatre production, ‘•Love Lies," at J-Us Majesty’s Theatre this evening and Monday evening. “Love Lies” lias proved to be a great attraction to theatregoers. Clem Dawe is very humorous in the role of Jerry Walker and he is assisted considerably in the f unmaking by Bobby Gordon. On Tuesday evening and four following nights, and on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, the company will produce the latest London comic opera success, “So This Is Love,” in which Clem Dawe recently achieved a triumph in Melbourne. He will take the part played by Stanley Lupino in the English presentation. The music is bright and tuneful and the production lends itself to picturesque dressing and brilliant ensembles. As in “Love Lies,” the tap dancing will be a great attraction. Mona Zeppel and John Robertson appear in a remarkable dance, too, and Bobby Gordon, who was successful in his whimsical portrayal of Roily Ryder in the opening production, will have splendid opportunities. Others in the cast will be Miss Betty Eley, Miss Marie Eaton. Miss Katherine Stewart, Maurice Cole, Paul Plunket, Compton Coutts and Dan Agar. RIALTO, NEWMARKET One of the screen’s favourites in amorous roles—a standing she obtained as a brunette —has turned blonde. Aileen Pringle makes her debut as a member of the body of women gentlemen are supposed to prefer in “Night Parade.” at the Rialto Theatre. As the “tool” of a crooked gambler, played with finesse by Robert Ellis, Miss Pringle sets out to carry Hugh Trevor, in the role of a boxing champion, along a primrose path, and nearly succeeds in getting him to agree to throw away his crown. “South Sea Rose,” the second big attraction, is a fascinating tale of a native girl introduced to a prim New England society. Lenore Ulric is the star. VENTURA DANCE CLUB Another of the enjoyable dances organised by the Ventura Dance Club will be held in the St. Sepulchre’s Hall tonight. Dancing will be continued t,o a late hour to the delightful music by the Versatile Pirates Jazz Band. MUNICIPAL CHOIR The Municipal Choir, under the conductorship of the City Organist, will give a concert in the Town Hall on Saturday evening next. Choral works by Gounod, Holst and Gaul, vocal and instrumental solos, will be included in the programme.
