PARTY FEELING
DEADLOCK IN SYNOD EACH SIDE GIVES WAY HAMILTON, Today. The existence of party feeling was evident at the Waikato Synod la3t evening when extreme difficulty was experienced in electing a full standing committee in accordance with the statutes. Two ballots were necessary the previous evening and then the membership was incomplete. Last evening a deadlock was reached when laym « refused to support two candidates an., the clergy refused to support the other two. Mr. D. Hay said the returns showed that one side had given way, but not the other. The Rev. R. L. Connolly strongly deprecated the introducing of party spirit in the dying hours of synod. Two candidates had offered to retire, but Mr. Hay and Mr. Harris refused. Ultimately, after a conference among the four one from each side withdrew, leaving the others elected. Their action evoked warm applause.
