DANGEROUS CROSSING
PUTARURU COMPLAINT “That reply is practically the ope we were hoping for.” commented a member. "This is only a small piece of work involving about £IOO if done by relief workers,” commented Mr. A Grayson, president, when a complain was received from the Putaruru Cham her of Commerce regarding a dangei oua railway level crossing on ti: main Taupo Road, just south of Po ruru. “This crossing is 1 a particularly b. one, as a small knoll nearby entire! blocks the view of traffic approachin from the Taupo direction until with! a few feet of the line,” stated the 1;> ter, which will be referred to th Railway Department. Mr. J. R. Self suggested that a campaign should be started by the department to enforce the lav regard ing compulsory stops at crossings. “Motorists who drive straigh: through are liable to a fine,” the pre sident pointed out. “The law is there and the blame for an accident cannelie with the department.”
