OFF TO AUSTRALIA
R. JOHNSON MAKING THE CROSSING The Taranaki trainer. R. Johnsort, has joined the trek for Australia, taking with him The Swell and Ridgemount. R. Drinkwater, an apprentice rider, accompanies him on the trip. Johnson expects to be away for some months (states the “Taranaki News”), and he will probably return just prior to Christmas. He will probably make for Caulfield, wliere his son has been located for some years, his early headquarters, but later on may take his team to Queensland, or even to Western Australia.' So far he has not entered his charges for any events. There will be plenty to nominate for when he gets over there, he remarked. He is no “new chum” over the other side, as he has made the trip three times —first with Shuja, and then with Toatare: later with Rewipoto and Henry Clay. The last-named was sold in Australia, and won quite a number of good handicap races in Western Australia. During his absence the remainder of Johnson’s team will be located at Westown under the care of his brother, P. Johnson. They comprise Bonogne, Belle Star. Green Patch (Acre—Dominant), and Spanish Prince <Prince Merriwee—Spain).
