PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD
On the recommendation of the Works Committee, at the meeting of the Papatoetoe Town Board last evening. it was decided to erect an ornamental iron standard at a cost of £l2 on the centre of the triangular reserve at the junction of Wyllie Road and Station Road, and to install a 500-candle-power light, at an annual charge of £lB. The chairman of the Works Committee reported that extra electric lights had been erected in Ashlynn Avenue, Shirley Road, Coronation Road and Wallace Road. The clerk was authorised to advise the promoters of the Auckland Provincial Water Board, that the board would support the proposals on condition that the maximum cost of the preliminary negotiations does not exceed £lO 10s. It was decided to support the proposal of the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies’ Association in the question of inviting the affiiliated local bodies to refrain from competing against each other for loan moneys, thus raising the rate of interest, and suggesting that when loans are needed the association should be notified and it will endeavour to assist. It was unanimously decided to send a letter of condolence to the Government regarding the death of Sir Joseph Ward.
