MORE MEN DISMISSED
THIRTY GIVEN NOTICE AT ADDINGTON CITY COUNCIL’S PROTEST Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Today, ice of the termination of their enjoyment was given to 80 employees of the Addington Railway "Workshops last. evening, the men affected being casuals who have been in the employ of the department for varying lengths of time. The workshops manager states that no permanent men have been put off. All were casual employees, some of ihem emergency casuals who had been engaged in the work from day to day. Others were term casuals, of whom many had been employed for some time. There were some returned soldiers among those dismissed. Forty-live men were dismissed from the workshops a fortnight ago. The Christchurch City Council last evening carried the following resolution: "'That this council emphatically protests against the action of the Government in increasing unemployment by dismissing men from the railway workshops and other departments without making provision for their em ployment in other directions.”
