NATIONAL
“THE VAGABOND KING”
Paramount’s first all-colour production, “The Vagabond King,” now being shown at the National Theatre, in which Dennis King is starred, is the largest and most ambitious talking picture yet to be made by that organisation. Fifty-five mammoth settings are used in the production. Hundreds of tapestries, rich draperies and mural paintings, were secured by the property department to decorate the huge scenes in true Louis XI. manner. In the huge garden fete setting 10,000 genuine roses, in addition to many hundreds of plants and other Powers, were used for decorative purposes. The entire cast of principals and several hundred extra players appear in this scene. “The Vagabond King,” which was one of the most successful of stage operettas, has been produced on a scale that has dwarfed the stage presentation into insignificance. Jeannette MacDonald, New York prima donna, plays opposite the star. O. P. Jleggie, Warner Oland, Lillian Booth and Arthur Stone play principal roles in support.
