DUKE OF YORK OPENS NEW HARBOUR BRIDGE PLEASED WITH WEYMOUTH British Official Wireless Reed. 11.15 a.m. RUGBY, Friday. The Duke of York today visited Weymouth and opened the new bridge over the harbour, which has . cost £90,000. In doing so he pressed a button, which started 400 h.p. electrical motors, lifting a 200-ton steel span in one and three-quarter minutes. More than 1,500 school children in pleasure steamers passed under the bridge, cheering the Duke. His Royal Highness recalled visits paid to Weymouth by his ancestor, King George 111. He said he admired his Majesty's wisdom in selecting Weymouth for rest and recreation.
