CHANEY SPEAKS

LONG SILENCE BROKEN Lon Chaney is about to break his Sphinx-like silence. The screen’s “man of a thousand faces,” one of the last of the great motion picture stars to remain silent on the silver sheet, will begin to talk. Announcement to this effect was made by Irving G. Thalberg, vice-pre-sident of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, who stated that Chaney has just been signed under a new' contract whereby he will appear in talking pictures. Under the terms of the contract Chaney will remain with Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer exclusively for a term of five years. Voted by motion picture theatre owners to be one of the most popular male stars of the screen for the past two years, Chaney’s decision to appear in talking pictures will create considerable interest in motion picture circles as well as among his millions of “fans” throughout the world.
