Following the completion ol his work in ‘’Raffles,” Ronald Colman will go to Honolulu for a vacation, according to a decision made by him recently. • * * <= “ ESCAPE ” CAST “Escape,” the John Galsworthy play, is soon to he made into a talking picture in England, with Basil Dean directing. The cast will feature Colin Clive, the young English actor now appearing in London as Captain Stanhope in the play, “Journey’s End.” Mr. Clive’s previous motion picture experience consists of a hurried trip across the Atlantic and the United States to appear in the motion picture version of “Journey’s End.” Edna Best is to portray the role of the Shingled Lady and Mabel Poulton will appear as the Girl in the Park. 'ENGLISH DEAL A big cinema deal, involving a large sum, is being negotiated between the Gaumont British Company and the United Picture Theatres, Ltd. Gaumont British are seeking to secure a control in United Picture Theatres under an agreement whereby they would take over the booking of films and the managership of the theatres. Sixteen big English theatres and a sum of £525,000 is involved. This deal will place Gaumont on the level in England of Fox and Paramount in the United States. A THOUSAND ROLES Fereki Boros, a noted Hungarian actress, who is in George Bancroft's new ail-talking Paramount picture, “Ladies Love Brutes,” has played more than 1,000 roles upon the stage. Others in the supporting cast of the film are Mary Astor, Fredric March, Stanley Fields, Ben Hendricks, Claud Allister and David Durande. Rowland V. Lee directed. ‘OLIVER TWIST ” Lionel Barrymore will again appear before the cameras when he will play Fagin, the suave and cunning rogue of Dickens’s “Oliver Twist,” the talking version which M.-G.-M. will make of the classic. Mr. Barrymore will direct as well as play in the picture, and Ruth ChatI terton will act the role of Nancy. No ! juvenile player for the role of Oliver | has yet been chosen. Samuel Ship- ; man and John B. Hymer are prepar- ! ing the screen adaptation.
