RETIRED CIVIL SERVANTS

ANNUAL MEETING HELD A strong: appeal to all members to seek out retired civil servants who had held aloof from the association, and induce them to add their weight f in the worthy cause of helping annuitants, was made by the chairman, Mr. M. Guthrie, at the annual meeting ol the Superannuated Public Servants Association held in the Railway Social Hall yesterday. There was a large attendance probably due to the rumour that certain concessions gained through the association’s influence might come under the general retrenchments threatened by the Prime Minister. The opinion was expressed that the merely nominal subscription of half-a-crown could not really be a reason why so many highly-paid annuitants failed to join up with the association. Some annuitants were receiving less j than an old ago pensioner.

I Report to the good services of the late j Mr. Edwin Clark, the first secretary of the association, and also to the late j Miss Marion Yeate. who for three years : had filled the position of assistant secretary. Officers were elected as follow: President. Mr. M. Guthrie; vice-presi- j dents, Mrs. M. J. Jenkinson and Mr. J. M. Drummond; lion secretary, Mr. \V. McNickle; assistant secretary, Mr. J. Duggan; committee. Misses M. Carnie ■ and J. McKay, and Messrs W. Williams, j J. E. D. Spicer, G. Hardcastle, B. Green. : and W. Burtenshaw. It was decided to print the Annual Report and circulate it throughout the Auckland district, appealing at the j same time for new members. Mr. Guthrie was appointed delegate to the annual conference 10 be held at Wellington at an early date. At this i conference a strong deputation will b ; arranged to see the Prime Minister m reference to tie- “order-of-ref« n di ; the recently chosen Royal Commission I which is n< iw en< llilivy of all iaiatc Superannuation Fundi
