A NEW FAD
Miss Anabelle Childs, of the University of California, lias started a new fad by appearing with a startling type of necklace —three coils of a
black and yellow king snake wound round her neck. Already the fashion has a courageous following. This snake, which is three feet long and very much alive, is sometimes used as a bracelet.
CHILD WELFARE The care of all Dr. Barnado's boarded-out children in England is in the capable hands of Dr. Margaret Hudson, who, last year, was in charge of 2,668 little ones. Out of this number there were only two deaths, a remarkable tribute to the patience and organising power of Dr. Margaret. Some of the waifs who pass through her hands are in poor physical condition, but in their new environment soon become hardy young citizens.
