EARTHQUAKE DISASTERS IN THE EAST.—The town of Pegu, Burma, was almost completely destroyed during the recent earthquakes which shook that country. The picture shows the ruins of the Shwehmawdaw Pagoda, held in greater veneration than any other sacred building in Burma, which was wrecked. Latest reports state that Calcutta has also experienced one of the worst shocks in living memory.
