NEW REGENT
“HONEY” i “Honey.” a musical romance with lots of comedy, and starring Nancy Carroll, comes to the New Regent Theatre today. In the story Olivia Dangerfieid, daughter of a proud but impoverished Virginia family, is forced to lease the parental mansion to a wealthy New York widow in order to pay* off the mortgage. She hires a staff of servants in compliance with the request of a widow, who is very particular about such things, but, of the three servants, only one shows up—Maynie, the upstairs maid, with her little daughter, Doris. Olivia is desperate. She makes her brother, Charles, impersonate the butler and she herself assumes the job of the cook. The new occupants arrive—Mrs. Falkncr, the rich widow; Cora, her daughter; Burton Crane, who' Mrs. Falkner hopes will marry Cora; and J. William Burnstein. private detective, who guards Mrs. Falkner’s jewels. Complications begin at once. The widow is displeased with the servants Cora and Charles fall in love. Burton Crane is intrigued by Olivia’s beauty. Doris informs the widow of these secret romances, for the price of five dollars a secret. Mrs. Falkner sends Burton Crane to discharge Olivia, but she talks him out of it. Mrs. Falkner then tells Olivia that she may remain if she will cook the dinner on the morrow, at which Burton Crane’s engagement to Cora will be announced. That night the widow confirms Doris’s tales when she sees Charles and Cora together at a Negro jubilee. Bright supporting items will also be shown. A second big attraction will be presented on the same programme tonight. It. is “Children of Pleasure,” a gripping | dramatic musical romance of the type j always appreciated by Auckland theatre-goers. Alexander Gray and Benny Rubin are the stars. “Laughter,” an original story by Harry D’Arrast, will bo adapted to supply Nancy Carroll’s next all-talking dramatic picture. Fredric March has been selected to play opposite the star, and the author, D’Arrust, will direct..
