HIS MAJESTY’S
“LOVE LIES” TOMORROW
Auckland playgoers have a warm spot in their hearts for Clem Dawe, and this popular comedian is assured of a good reception when he makes his appearance for the first time m musical comedy tomorrow’ evening. This will be not the least of the attractions in J. C. Williamson s new English Musical Comedy Company triumph, “Love Lies,” which drew record audiences during its seasons in Sydney and Alelbourne, and is coming to His Majesty’s for a short season. The part of Jerry Walker, which was portrayed in London by Stanley Lupino. might have been specially written for Clem Dawe, so well does ho fit into it. The management was evidently fortunate in its selection of artists, particularly those engaged in London, as critics in Australia have declared that they form the best organisation that has appeared in musical comedy for many years. A series of diverting comedy incidents is included in “Love Lies.” one of the best being the unmarried artist's attempt to escape the attentions of the Spanisli-American lady by masquerading as a golden haired young woman. Clem Dawe takes this part. A delightful love theme runs through all the clever nonsense, and there are plenty of songs, three extra numbers having been added by the producers, Richard White and Eric Edgley, who were attracted by them when they were in New York last st The cast includes Miss Betty Eley. Miss Rita McLean, Mr. Bobby Gordon, Mr. Michael Cole, English artists who will make their first appearance here in "Love Lies”: Marie Eaton. Dan Agar, Paul Plunkett. Mona Barlee, Les White, Eric Edgley. Compton Coutts. John Wood and Leo Fowler.
