BOXING AUTHORITIES’ DRASTIC RULING SHARKEY TO FIGHT SCHMELING Reed. 10.5 a.m. NEW Y ORK, Wed. The New York State Athletic Commission, as a reply to public criticism of the recent epidemic of fouls, has ruled that henceforward all boxers shall wear approved protective devices, and if a fighter be struck a low blow he shall be awarded that particular round, but if he cannot rise he will lose the bout on a knock-out to his opponent. Jack Sharkey, who lost to Max Schmeling on a foul in a fight for the world’s heavy-weight title recently, signed articles on Wednesday for a 15-rounds bout with Schmeling at the Yankee Stadium on September 25. HEENEY’S FIGHT OFF Reed. 10.15 a.m. BOSTON, Wed. Bartazzolo has fractured a thumb, which has necessitated six weeks idleness. His bout with Tom Heeney of New Zealand on July 7 has therefore been cancelled.
