ON MAORIS
ANTHROPOLOGY SECTION’S SYLLABUS The 1930 lectures of the Anthropology and Maori Race Section of the Auckland Institute and Museum begin this evening in the biology theatre of the University College, with an address by the chairman. Air. Victor F. Fisher, on the importance of flax in Maori life. On July 16 Captain G. MumphreysDavis will have as his subject “With Cinema. Through the Malay States,” and this address will be followed by “Primitive Art and Craft Forms,” Mr. Gilbert Arehey, director of the War Memorial Museum, August C: “Evolution of Written Maori,” Mr. Patrick Smyth, secretary to the Akarana Maori Association, August 27 (in the University College hall); ordinary meeting on September .17; “Maori Fowling,” Mr. A. T. Pycroft, October S: lectur'd tos and demonstrations of flax plaiting. the Akarana Association. October 29. Two field days, for the. purpose ofstudying Maori life out of doors, will ho held by the section, which was formed in 1922 for the promotion of the study of anthropology. A principal object is to initiate research into Maori culture.and art.
