INTERESTING FIND NEAR BLENHEIM COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL Press Association • BLENHEIM, Today. An interesting find at Wairau Bar, on the site of an extensive old Maori pa, is reported by Mr. Charles Woolf, j nephew of the Harbour Board pilot, ! Captain Vendore. It consists of a | medallion struck to commemorate the | departure from England in 1772 of Captain Cook’s ships Resolution and ! Adv enture. The obverse side contains* a representation of the head of George Ilf., with the wording: “George 111., King i Great Britain, France, and Ireland.” i etc. On the reverse side is a repre- ! sen tat ion of two ships, with the legend “Resolution and Adventure, sailed from England, March, 1772.” j Captain Cook brought some of the : medals with him, and presented them to high Maori chiefs, urging them to i wear them as a mark of the favour | of the Great White King.
