FEWER HORSES ON FARMS

MINISTER EXPRESSES REGRET Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. Regreo that the production of horses for farm w-ork was steadily decreasing was expressed by the Hon J. A. Murdoch, Minister of Agriculture, when addressing the Veterinary Association Conference yesterday. He said he would like the matter taken up by farmers generally, and believed a time was coming when farmers would be asking for horses again. “It seems to be an idea with the farmer," he said, “that horses will not be wanted in the future, and that it will be machinery all the way through. I think that is a great mistake. In most cases I feel certain that the horse can still do work cheaper than the machine. When properly cared for and of the right type, the horse does better work, particularly on smaller places.”
