I “ I FUNDS FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO NORTHCOTE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL GROUNDS I CHILDREN'S MERRY EVENING To raise funds for improvements to the grounds of the Junior High School, Northcote, a very successful children’s fancy dress ball was organised by Mrs. J. Gracie, and held in the Foresters’ Hall, Birkenhead, last evening. Members of the committee present included Mrs. Bailey, president, Mesdames Davey, Sanders, Marshall, Shaw, Blake, Blackwell, Gracie, McPhail, 'Wood, Mills, Barrett, Brennan and Pugh, and the school staff. Mrs. Wood was the winner of the guessing competition. Mrs. W. B. Barlow, in a l'rock of opal blue georgette, acted as judge, assisted by Miss Myra Monk, who chose cream chiffon velvet and lace. Miss K. Shaw, wearing a costume, “Folly,” gave an exhibition of fancy dancing, which was greatly appreciated. The prizewinners included: —Joy Clow, Heel of Silk; Lorraine Fitzgerald, Uinemoa Park; P. Alfred i Street, Auckland, when they enter- I tained a number of guests. The drawing-room, which was set t apart for bridge, was prettily arranged i with pink and white' camellias, while I the dining-room, where dancing was ! indulged in, was decorated with bowls ! of sweet peas and asparagus fern. Mr. and Mrs. Graee and Mr. O'Dono- i ' hue provided excellent dance music, i and during the evening a delightful I ! programme was given bv Miss I.eil .
