TREES FOR MOUNT ALBERT

WELFARE LEAGUE SCHEME A deputation from the Mount Albert Welfare League waited on the Mount Albert Borough Council last evening with a proposal for the planting of trees on Mount Albert. The Mayor. Mr. L. E. Rhodes, presided over the meeting. The deputation was led by Mrs. Kerruish, the president of the league. The proposal was that native trees be planted on the hillside, and that creeper be grown within the crater. The league members included many children, and it was suggested that the children should plant some of t)ie trees and have their names connected with those they handled. This would give them an extra interest in the beauty and welfare of the borough. The council supported the project, subject to the supervision of the borough engineer in regard to the selection and planting of the trees. It was decided to limit this year’s loan expenditure to £75,000, a reduction of £35,000 on last year.
